Alicia Colella is a contemporary visual artist who specializes in pen and ink and acrylic mediums. Alicia was born and raised in the colonial city of Puebla, Mexico. Growing up in a city so rich in art and architecture, inspired much of the heart of her work. After nearly 15 years in Charleston, Alicia draws inspiration both from her old home and her new. Charleston offers a familiarity to the elements of her home city. Whether it is the wrought iron gates with integral details, or the beautiful church steeples lining every corner, every characteristic can be traced back home.
Being self taught, Alicia’s craving for art evolved into her first medium, pen and ink. Her pen and ink artwork launched her artistic career. She has spent years perfecting her art, learning new techniques and drawing inspiration from her city and landscapes. Most of her work she created was monochromatic, but after a long desire to learn to paint on canvas, she decided to add color to her creativity and started painting with acrylics. Her subjects are landscapes, abstracts of marshes, and seascapes with soft and joyful color palettes. Since launching into the world of color, she has developed several collections with an impressionistic style.
Alicia Colella Art has been recently juried into exhibition at the 2022 Piccolo Spoleto at City Gallery in Charleston and The Town Hall Art Exhibit Program in Mount Pleasant, SC. She has been invited to participate in multiple art festivals throughout the Charleston area, interviewed by the South Carolina Voyager magazine as a “Rising Star” and featured in “El Informador” Spanish newspaper in Charleston. She has also been commissioned to create designs for business logos, startup tea packaging, wedding invitations and favors, residential gate drawings, and abstract Acrylic paintings on canvas of many sizes. She has developed products with her artwork that can be found in multiple high end gift shops throughout the Charleston area.
My Art Style & Inspiration
I started dabbling in pen and ink as a hobby at first. I love fine pens and I have a collection of them. While walking the streets of Charleston I noticed a lot of architectural similarities from my home town in Puebla. I began to sketch the beautiful wrought iron Charleston gates that are found just about everywhere. I love the patterns, symmetry, and balance of the gates and I have sketched a whole collection of them.
About three years ago, I began painting with acrylics. I incorporate palette knives with some of my paintings and I use the Charleston landscapes as my inspiration. I playfully add soothing colors that capture my imagination and represent happiness and peace. I love painting the ocean with beautiful, colorful skies. The marshes offer an incredible versatility with so many shapes and colors to draw & paint. I am always studying different techniques and styles, mainly contemporary impressionistic and expressionistic.
My dream is to transition as a full time artist and creative.
My mission is to leave a legacy for my children.
My why is to create art that inspires and moves the soul evoking emotions of joy, peace, calm, relaxation and hope.
I offer a range of products with my artwork on it and I would be delighted to work on a commission for you!
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
